About

I am a researcher, analyst, engineer, navigator, romantic, husband, father, entrepreneur, genealogist, advisor, investor, writer, photographer, and traveler — not necessarily in that order. I’m sure I left something out, but I think you get the picture. Research and analysis seem to be the two major traits, skills, or habits that tend to link my many pursuits. They are the common threads of my life.

Life has thrown me a few curves and things don’t always work out as originally planned. That forces me to “recalculate” occasionally as I continue Navigating This Thing We Call Life. Additionally, I seem to reinvent myself every decade or two — hopefully every new version is an improvement over the old.

In addition to this website, I have a couple of other ventures keeping me occupied and out of trouble these days. These include Bowport, the house flipping business I operate with my wife Patti, and Rowland Genealogy. Like many people involved in genealogy, this passion arrived late in my life. It has been said that until one gains an appreciation of their own mortality, they cannot achieve an adequate respect for those that have come before. However, I believe my love of genealogy is also in my genes. The bug was passed to me from my mother and my paternal grandfather.
