Alabama Nights
Moonrise through the pines
immediately reunites me
with a former place and time
Vision deeply etched in memory
like the well-worn groove
of a favorite record album
Foothills of the Appalachians
where it is easy to succumb to nature
on those tranquil Alabama nights

Linked to dVerse Poets Pub — Quadrille #135: Shake that Poem Groove Thing, where De Jackson (aka WhimsyGizmo,) is hosting and instructed us to get in the groove and pen a quadrille including some form of the word groove.
Quadrille: A poetic form introduced at dVerse Poets Pub circa 2011. The rules for Quadrille: not including the title, a poem of exactly 44 words using the prompt word or its variant.
Oh, how beautiful. I needed this piece of tranquility today. Thank you!
Thanks De.
How wonderful… sounds like a wonderful place and time
Yes, Alabama was home in 1975 and 1976. It was a wonderful place and time.
You took us to a wonderfully magical place. Thanks!
I really like this. Great imagery. Nicely done poem.

Happy Monday
Much💛love
Moonrises have a special place in my heart.
wow took me back. i played in a pine forest as a child. for me early norfolk (England) mornings.
thanks for reminding me of simlper times
I first lived among the pines in Alabama (1975-1976), then again in Black Forest, Colorado (1986-1988).
What wonderful memories – beautiful poem.
Thank you
There are some things that say home. This one feels like it. The moon rising through the pine trees is a comforting thing, every time.
Alabama was last home in the mid-70s, but a moonrise through the pines always takes me back.
Serene groove. Certain places are definitely akin to record albums in my memory.
Totally wonderful!
‘bama nights….BAM!!!
This is a great poem Ron. I love how you wove the prompt in so smoothly. I can feel your nostalgia with the places of home!
I’m a sucker for nostalgia
Beautiful!
Beautiful. Very serene imagery!
There’s such a sense of serenity in this. Lovely, Ron.
Well done. I enjoyed reading that, Ron. And not a word of football. 🙂
touchdown
Nice play with the reference of groove in a record.
I sank into your Quadrille, not wanting to leave. Reminded me so of those wonderful nights in rural southern Illinois. My friends, my loves, my life. Sigh.
Glad I was able to take you back to a wonderful time.
Clever use of the word
“Vision deeply etched in memory
like the well-worn groove
of a favorite record album”
and this is something I can so connect with. In my teen years I had a phonograph record player….bought 45s and the occasional album….the idea of the well worn groove on my favorite album is exactly as it was.
We used to talk about “playing a song so many times that the groove wore clear through”
Two things captured me here: the pines, of which grew all around my growing-up neighborhood and the well-worn groove of a favorite record album…had so many favorite records that got played and played. Nice memories for you too it seems.
Gayle ~
Yes, I think we all got pretty good at setting the needle down on our favorite track and wearing the groove a little deeper.
Ron, this is lovely – do you have history in Alabama?

David
Thanks David. Yes, I lived there 1975-1976 when I worked for NASA.
