April Mornings and October Evenings
Calendar date consultation
Is one way to mark the seasons
But activities and location
For me are the defining reasons
Spring’s arrival is such a thrill
But the March start date is a strain
The rains that come in April
Produce waterfalls and grass stains
Placing woolens in the cedar chest
Is a clear sign that winter is over
Escaping skyscrapers or your nest
To enjoy a fragrant field of clover
Earth moves forward for half a year
To the opposite side of the sun
October arrives without shedding a tear
Jack-o-lanterns signify that autumn has won
The timber wolf howls at the moon
In a heartbeat evening turns to night
The winter season comes too soon
As we await the next April morning light
