Greetings from the Edge of the Fringe

I live way out on the fringe of life
And yes, it’s often filled with strife
It’s much larger than you’d expect
I do my best to keep it in check

The fringe of life depends on your view
It can be a happy place of which there are few
Or you can load it up with hate and sorrow
Making you wish there were no tomorrow

My place in the fringe may come as a surprise
I’m not hiding here, that’s considered unwise
Not in the middle where you’d think I’d be
I’m out on the edge of the fringe you see

The fringe has two sides and dual edges too
One side cuts deep, creating a whole new view
The other cuts shallow, which might seem strange
Making that edge quite subtle often hiding the change

For me, I go deep and take it right to the edge
Living life to the fullest, it’s no time to hedge
The cut goes both ways, causing many to cringe
For me it’s just greetings from the edge of the fringe

Linked to dVerse Poets Pub — dVerse — Poetics — Edges and Fringes Lisa is hosting Poetics tonight and has prompted us to accept a mission to spark on one of these paths:

  1. Write a poem using the word edge;
  2. Write a poem that keeps Millikin’s question above in mind.
  3. Write a poem using the word fringe;
  4. Write a poem from the fringe, however you define it.

I went with 5) all of the above, because to me they all work together.

    1. A good prompt can take you many places, I used to write columns about stock market activity of the day/week. I found it quite tedious, boring, and unimaginative, unless I had a good prompt from which to begin. Tying in with today’s theme, my investing blog was called Invest with an Edge.

  1. I think you have described it all to well.. to me they also reflect the way solitude can be something to seek but loneliness should be avoided, From any outside observers they are hard to tell apart though,
