Just a Dave Mason Song
I thought you would spend your life with me
But here we go again, it seems we just disagree
It feels like we are alone together, a feeling quite bereft
Even when you’re not here, it’s like you never left
Only you know and I know how much we did try
But if you save your love for others, give me a reason why
Can’t stop just wondering just what do we got here
Baby…please, we must separate these two hearts that live in fear
Look at you look at me, we’re always in a fight
I’m tired of tryin’ to get back to you, can’t seem to get it right
Now I am the lonely one, there’s nothing left to save
Maybe you shouldn’t have took more than you gave
I need to let it go, let it flow, before my heart goes blind
You are such a headkeeper, it makes me lose my mind
I sit on pins and needles as a pearly queen determines my fate
Do I stay in this quicksand of relation ships or make my escape
I can’t stop worrying, can’t stop loving, it’s just part of me
Although there’s a world in changes, I’m waiting to be free
Like the hole in my shoe that’s probably beyond repair
Just cryin’ to be heard and hope I never find me there
It’s more than a heartache, a shadow, a lifetime, a reflection
I’m just tired of waitin’ on you to show me some affection
If you’ve got love with a silent partner that’s something I don’t know
Gotta be on my way, I know you can’t take it when you go
Don’t be sad as the seasons change, they don’t do it just for you
Every woman knows you can lose it when you begin anew
Now I’m feeling alright, although it does feel wrong
Like Dave Mason said, you can all join in, it’s only just a song

Words, mostly by Dave Mason, arrangement by Ron Rowland. This poem consists of 42 Dave Mason song titles (in italics). I have long been a huge fan of Dave and his work. I hope he can forgive me this indulgence. I created the feature image from a few of his album covers.
Created as a response to Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie Music Challenge: We Just Disagree – Challenge #181 where host newepicauthor challenged us to focus on the song We Just Disagree by Dave Mason and use it for a short story, a piece of flash fiction, or a poem.
Linked to Linda Kruschke’s What Is a paint Chip Poem? where this week is a “free write” and my paint chips are pins and needles and quicksand.
Linked to dVerse Poets Pub — Open Link Night #303, where Linda Lee Lyberg is hosting tonight.
I love this! I am not familiar with Dave Mason, but your “found” poem with a few paint chips thrown in is awesome.
You are a much bigger Dave Mason fan than I am Ron and I appreciate you sharing your wonderful poem.
Brilliant, Ron.
You always amaze me with your words 😘
I love what you’ve done here, Ron! Now I’m going to have to check out Dave Mason’s music…
Wow- so well done Ron!
So clever the way you worked in the song titles, Ron!
I saw something like this done using lines from Leonard Cohen’s songs. This worked out well.
Very clever, Ron. What a lovely homage to one of your favourite musicians 🙂
Love how you use the song titles as a prism for the pleasure you derive from Mason’s music!

Certain he forgives you … as this is a great bit of poetry he inspired.
I haven’t listened to Dave Mason in a long time, but you took his words and made something wonderful. (K)
Great to hear you read it, Ron. Sad how someone can go away while they’re still there. Happened to me once. You captured the feeling well.
