Just Don’t Go Whacko
My wife has but one, small edict to me
“Just don’t go whacko,” is her strong plea
Of course she has many other concerns
But this one is causing today’s heartburn
She loves me dearly, this much I know
Enjoying the fact that I go with the flow
We all have limits, of which we hold dear
If crossed, our love, becomes much less clear
Loving and liking are different indeed
One is want, the other a need
She says she’ll love me, no matter what
But if I’m a dick, that door will slam shut
She says it in jest, although partially true
It’s not mental illness she’s referring to
She loves the direction of our life now
If I veered off, she’d recant her vows
To her I’m half crazy, and that’s okay but
It’s because she believes I’m a loveable nut
All bets are off though, if I go full pyscho
Warning me plainly, “Just don’t go whacko”

It’s nice to know where your cards lie. Mind your Ps & Qs.
So funny but with an underlying levity to it. They say there is a fine line between genius and madness, and your poem has me addending it to there is also a fine line between nutty and psycho 😉
It seems I am often walking the line
There are so many songs playing through my head right now about walking the line. (Johnny Cash, Aerosmith…) There is something alluring about existing in the danger zone of the line.
I think she’s safe. Somehow I don’t see you going “whacko” !!
Yes, we often tell one another that we believe we are the most sane people we know.
Love it 😀
I’m sure she appreciates your quirky side really!
I would imagine it’s an ever-changing definition, both from her side and yours. (K)
Ha ha… Love it Ron. Yes it is very important to keep it together. A great tongue in cheek poem!
She’s clearly a wise woman, Ron! But I’m sure she chose well! :-D. Plus a bit of wacko helps the poetry along 🙂
Well written Ron! I celebrate the veracity and power of your words. May you continue always sharing only your authentic self — that alone makes you genuine, meaningful to read, and of worth to be heard! Síocháin!
Wow Rob, such kind (and appreciated) words. I will try my best to live up to your expectations.
