Kwansaba Praise

Our family unity helps us stand strong
Each of us drives our own destiny
Group efforts benefit each one in time
Share the burden and reap the rewards
Our purpose is ethical and morally solid
Vision to create and express unique arts
We have loving faith in each other

Linked to dVerse ~ Poets Pub Poetry Form: Kwansaba & Blessings, where Grace is hosting and has challenged us to write a Kwansaba, which is an African American verse form of praise.  The defining features of Kwansaba are:

1. a celebration of family and African-American culture, a praise poem.
2. a septastich, a poem in 7 lines.  (To be clear, it is only 1 stanza).
3. measured by 7 words in each line.
4. written with no word exceeding 7 letters.

My approach was to match each of the seven lines of the Kwansaba with the seven principles of Kwanza’s Nguzo Saba:

• Unity, family
• Self Determination
• Work Collectively
• Cooperative economics
• Purpose
• Creativity
• Faith
