Summer Has Changed
Summer was my favorite season, it always was the best
The many outdoor activities put it heads above the rest
Every day at the pool started with a plunge into the deep end
There was no wading in or lap swim, I hope you comprehend
Dinnertime meant chicken and fighting for the wishbone
With a salted heirloom tomato, and for dessert an ice cream cone
Chasing a firefly against the ever changing patina of the sunset
Is just one of the joyous memories I hope never to forget
But that was before the virus came, now summertime is deadly
Thinking of the good old days simply makes me green with envy
Having fun in summer used to be never hard or forced
But being locked indoors has made summertime the worst

I still love summer, even in this pandemic. At least if I’m stuck at home I can go out to the deck and enjoy my flowers. But I do miss all the summer fun of years past.
Love, love how it keeps to the subject while rhyming too!
This is fantastic as usual, Ron. 😀 I especially like the rhyme scheme, and I smiled at the slant rhyme at the end. Couplets are very effective.
