To Night, From Day

Dear Night, there is something I need to get off my chest
Despite appearances, our relationship hasn’t always been the best

I know I should have written sooner and probably could of if I tried
But I was busy trying to reduce your dark hold over the Aquarius sky

To put in bluntly, I and others are somewhat afraid of you
Everything changes without my daylight enhancing the view

Whites like cotton become only dark gray without the light you stole
Even bright deviled eggs are a black blob when you are in control

That precious cabin in the woods becomes scary when the sun goes down
Even then people try to extend me with any light source that’s around

You make beautiful blossoms fade away, which is probably your intent
I trust the night owls will disagree with my accusatory assessment

When you arrive, life itself seems to get up and leave on a dime
But when I make my entrance, I bring along the sun, it’s showtime!

I’ll end my letter now, and give you a chance to have your say
And though we have our differences, I know you’ll follow me. Sincerely, Day

    1. Correct. I read neither yours nor Shelley’s prior. I just noticed the name was “to night” instead of “tonight” and the theme fell into place.

  1. I didn’t realize you were writing to a word list. It flows so well. You make me think of that ELO song, Mr. Blue Sky. I love Mr. Day; he had such an honest chat here with Mr. Night.

  2. This is gorgeously rendered! I especially like; “You make beautiful blossoms fade away, which is probably your intent/I trust the night owls will disagree with my accusatory assessment.” 🙂
