Vanquished Hope
‘tis foolish to think hope doth lives
tangible evidence in the trees
man keeps taking but never gives
forces the forest to its knees
balloons released never returned
escaped love disappears forever
important lessons never learned
nourished souls forthcoming never
all hope is vanquished
despair the new rule
shout out in anguish
hope is only for fools

A palinode poem in rebuttal to Hope Lives.
Linked to dVerse Poets Pub — MTB: Palinode where Grace has challenged us to write a palinode. This can be in relation to a poem you have written before, or as part of poem.
Palinode: A palinode or palinody is an ode or song that retracts or recants a view or sentiment to what the poet wrote in a previous poem.
My poem, The Station Manager, contains a palinode with the final stanza recanting the view expressed in the opening stanza,.

Oh, yeah, that the palinode, alright, OtherRon. Well done!
I sing with adoration for the quality of the work. Delicious in its intent, powerful in its expression. Well done, well done, well done!
It can be like that too: hope is only for fools. Well done with the challenge.
A really great twist from the original! Interesting… When I read the prompt I thought it was going from a negative view to a positive one. You have done the opposite and done it very well!
Oh this is sad! Sometimes it feels this way, but hopefully all is not lost…
This is gorgeously encapsulated! 💝
I hope that there is some hope at least… maybe it’s better to be a fool
