Wars Not Of Their Making
Our boys were sent to foreign lands
to fight wars not of their making
Many never came back home
their mothers’ hearts still aching
In battlefields they morphed into men
their innocence now squandered
Forever altered when they returned
because they went over yonder

Linked to SammiScribbles Weekend Writing Prompt #202 — “Yonder” where this weekend the challenge is to write a poem of exactly 44 words.
Quadrille: A poetic form consisting of exactly 44 words, including a prompt word: Quadrille Defined in a Quadrille
Wars caused many irreparable damage, both mental and physical, and still do today. A poignant piece indeed.
“Our boys were sent” — among the saddest four words.
Such a sad time, and somehow lessons aren’t learned.
War and the pity of war. When will we learn? And when will we learn to understand those who come back? A poem that touches the heart of this.
A sad reality for far too many.
Dear Ron,
Wonderful poem. Sad truth.
Shalom,
Rochelle
A beautifully written tribute! Bravo.
Wonderful distilling of a quadrille into a haiku into the horrible essence of war. The cost is never worth what is gained 99% of the time.
Too many that came home, were scared.
May we remember all the good they gave.
And yet, wars still go on, unfortunately! Excellent piece, Ron!
Too many to count…(K)
Amazingly well done! I love how your haiku echoes the portion above it and also connects with the other prompt word, the rainbow.
