Whimsical Anapestic Tetrameter

Here I sit
in the rain;
thoughts run wild
through my brain.

I can’t sing,
I can’t dance,
so I write
in a trance.

Words are words,
balderdash,
say it loud,
say it fast.

Speak it soft,
speak it slow,
not the same,
don’t you know.

Now I’m done,
now I’m through,
here’s the end,
just for you.

  1. I like the way you broke it down into short lines that tap out the metre like morse code and convey the wildness of those thoughts. Great rhyming too. These lines made me smile, mainly because of the word on its own – it’s one of my favourites:
    ‘Words are words,
    balderdash,
    say it loud,
    say it fast.’
