Browsing The Corridors Of My Mind

The path is long
with many doors
peering within
triggering prior scenes

Some surprisingly vivid
others fading away
memories all
comfortable
serene

Time passing quickly
hastening pace
afraid of leaving
innocence behind

Gazing into each
with nostalgic wonder
browsing the corridors
of my mind

Quadrille Defined in a Quadrille

  1. This resonates with me quite well, especially when losing the sense of ourselves that didn’t know too much at one point, and now knowing too much, you feel lost. You captured that feeling and the loss of memories, of scenes, quite well (added in with nostalgia of the past). If not for our memories, how do we define ourselves? It’s a great question that occurred to me after reading this. Beautifully written and evocative. <3

    1. Thanks Tricia. My first draft had it as “…leaving something behind” and I felt the need to be more specific than “something”.

  2. A timeless pool from which we can drink as we choose. I think that is a pic of you from the past. Nice pic! Fading but still very much a living reality in your memory.

    1. Thanks Lisa. I like your concept of drinking what we choose. Fortunately for me, nearly all of my memories are good ones, so it is seldom a bitter drink. Yes, that is a pic of me from 40 years ago (perhaps in my prime?). I edited it to add the scratches, fade, and an oil painting blur.

  3. Really was taken by this Ron. The longer the journey, the deeper the fog. Yet, occasionally a long buried memory pops up unexpectedly. The mind is a labyrinth.
