Did Someone Say Food?
It’s no ordinary food court
I’ll have you know
be sure you’re quite hungry
before you go
More than two dozen restaurants
to please your palate
and plenty of bars to satisfy
your drinking habit
It’s a gastronomical delight
for all your senses
the city’s best chefs
without pretenses
Cais do Sodré neighborhood
of old Lisbon
in a grand expansive venue
is where it’s done
If you are like me
one day is not enough
a second day was needed
for all that gourmet stuff
TimeOut Market
don’t forget the name
you can get there easily
just take the 15E train

Link to TimeOut Market — It is highly recommended if you are ever in the neighborhood. I didn’t have the octopus hotdog, but I did try the octopus tacos.

Linked to dVerse Poets Pub —Tuesday poetics – food!, where Sarah is hosting and asked us to to write a poem about food.
That looks and sounds amazing – Lisbon is definitely on my after-the-pandemic list!
All of Portugal is wonderful
It sounds more like a month of gastronomical excess!
Really well done and well-rhymed.
Yummy and rhymed too. Nice one
Happy New Year
Much love…
Happy new year Gillena
Ooh I love browsing and sampling at places like that. Not sure I’d try to octopi but you never know!
Yes to the poetry, no to the octopus hot dogs. Thanks anyway. Nice work, OtherRon.
Ah, where’s your adventure?
Love this. Always wanted to visit Lisbon. My grandfather was born there.
Be sure you do one day.
Sounds enticing!
Sounds like quite a place to pick your favorite foods. Can you imagine what Covid-19 has done to them the past couple of years? Well done Ron.
We were there during the height of COVID (at the time). Spain and Portugal have some of the highest vaccination rates in the world. We felt much safer there than in the US. Tourism was low, but the locals were out in full force.
Wonderful!
That’s a lovely spread of food. 🙂
Lots of choices. Oh, to be able to go to those far away eating places. But ah, you take us there.
A variety of restaurants to try…tickles my taste buds just reading about them..
This is a ridiculously mouth-watering poem, Ron. I’m beginning to think that this prompt is not very healthy for me!

It sounds like a great place, Ron! I think you said you’d been to La Boqueria in Barcelona too?
Yes, while both are “markets” they are quite different. The Barcelona market was mostly vendors of a single or group of items (fruits, meats, etc) and a few with seats where you could eat. Lisbon is almost entirely high-end gourmet restaurants with renowned chefs, although a couple were focused on single food items (donuts and yogurt come to mind), and the giant wine dispensary in the middle of the eating area.
It all sounds fantastic anyway!
Love it! It sounds like an amazing place! You even gave us directions!
A destination definitely worth a visit!
Markets are always my favorite place to visit… Lisbon is still on my list (but I have seen the one in Funchal)
Funchal is certainly off the beaten path.
