Sharp Edge Of Night (with audio)
Sharp edge of night
eviscerates the day
spewing dark o’er the land
keeping light at bay
Night exerts full reign
beneath its haughty crown
extinguishing signs of life
across the forlorn town
With curtains drawn
the ritual begins
and day succumbs
to nighttime’s whims

Great quadrille! I especially like
‘ With curtains drawn
the ritual begins
and day succumbs
to nighttime’s whims’.
Thanks Carol
I love the letting go in this quadrille.
My first draft used the word ‘surrenders’, but it became ‘succumbs’ during the revisions
Nice poem! I liked
“Sharp edge of night
eviscerates the day
spewing dark o’er the land
keeping light at bay”
The verse style was interesting too! 😀
Thanks
The tyranny of night.
…well, it was wearing a crown… 😉
Nuff said.
hmnnn… I’d never really thought of night in this harsh light (no pun intended) before… well done, Ron!

How about “night joyfully relieves day of its duties”?
It sounds a very forbidding place, at least at night, but the poem is very lyrical.
Thanks Merril
What lies beneath nighttime’s whims? Love what you’ve done here, Ron.
Thanks Dale
🙂
This is so wonderful – and great use of rhyming!
Thanks Phillip
Some very lovely lines in this Ron!
Glad you enjoyed it Carrie. Thanks for stopping by.
Nights are getting longer and longer (but just for a short time more)
…and then the cycle repeats
Perhaps we should turn out the lights, open the curtains, and participate! (K)
Now there’s a thought…
