Silent Smoke Signal
If you don’t speak up the silence might seem deafening
A smoke signal communicates in a very quiet way
And communicating non-verbally can be an awakening
If you don’t speak up the silence might seem deafening
Although the lack of sound does not need to be threatening
Use pictures and words to convey all you need to say
If you don’t speak up the silence might seem deafening
A smoke signal communicates in a very quiet way

My triolet in response to Linda Kruschke’s Paint Chip Poetry Challenge Prompt #52. The words and phrases you have to work with are sprig of mint, smoke signal, dragonfly, black cat, faded denim, dust devil, and prickly pear. My challenge to you is to pick just one of these words, the one that most symbolizes silence for you, and write four tercets with a clear rhyme scheme. Or you could choose to write a triolet.

Beautiful triolet. This is one of my favorite poetry forms.
