Contemplating My Navel – Flash Fiction

“Contemplating my navel” is my usual uttered response when questioned about the expressionless, zombie-like, blankness engulfing my face. Truth be known, I often don’t know what I’m thinking about, or if I’m even thinking at all. It’s really more of a meditative state, on a different plane of consciousness than what the process of thinking requires. I often drift away trying to understand my reason for being in this universe, the “why am I here” kind of thing. Although I keep contemplating questions that cannot be answered by mere mortals, I prefer keeping in mind even the possibility that existence has its own reason for being. In other words, perhaps my reason for being here is simply to be here. Trying to assign a deeper meaning beyond that falls into the realm of speculation. Who knows, maybe I am just contemplating my navel.

  1. Love this especially; “Although I keep contemplating questions that cannot be answered by mere mortals, I prefer keeping in mind even the possibility that existence has its own reason for being.” Yes! Gorgeously rendered! 🙂
